Funny things on the 'net

This person addresses all of our confusion with the prescription medicine ads. "Ask my doctor about it? But what does it do?" I realize there are legal restrictions to what they can say, but the confusion is still there.

McSweeneys

Trying to pack for the moto weekend. I have two more nights to get ready, so the fact that I scampered out for a gelati and The Gilmore Girls with Erin last night was not a setback. :) And there was gelati and Erin, so even a setback would have been ok. Don't tell Trevor I was over, though. He's the jealous type.

And a big hello to Mr. Conlin who I h'aint talked at in way too long. Have a good time in MN. The weather should be about like NOE, so don't worry about missing out. Should snow there soon :^D

That is all.

Last week of August

Hard to believe it's almost September. Kids are starting back to school, the sun sets earlier (too early for me), and the evenings are cool (which is great for sleeping with the windows open).

Happy Birthday to brother-in-law Chad whose birthday was yesterday. More special birthdays coming up next month.

Lily loves to sleep on things - envelopes, pants, remote controls - and she found over the weekend that she also likes my gym bag. Maybe it's the old sock smell that she likes.

New computer, dinner and movie review

Finally got my new computer at work. Mmm, so fast. Everything works so well. New keyboard is clean and has a nice, light clicky sound. Many USB ports and Win XP pro (no more 98SE!!). I'm in lust with my new computer. And it's black.

Had dinner at JB Dawson's last night. Very tasty stuff. Highly recommended. Then saw "Broken Flowers" staring Bill Murray, Jessica Lange, Tilda Swinton, Sharon Stone. A good movie and better than I expected. Thought-provoking, funny, touching. Bill Murray did a wonderful job. The director used him very well as there were many scenes where Bill didn't say a word, but through timing and expression filled the space and communicated a lot. (wow that was poorly written, huh?)

Now a few hours of work including fun test time in the lab, then perhaps the gym or a run, maybe a little wine, and a night at home with the kitty and a movie. I'll let her choose this time, even if it's Cats and Dogs for the third time.

Man, it *feels* like Friday

Well, maybe not, but yesterday sure felt like Thursday to me.

Let's see, I used the new running shoes (Brooks Dyad3) Tuesday night and they were great. Yes, Steve, it was the shoes that needed replacing, not the feet. I could use a knee replacement, though, and perhaps replacing some gut with empty space would be helpful.

Last night was finish the salsa (added a bunch of cilantro and just a little ginger), make stir fry (broccoli and tofu needed to be used) and watch Mythbusters. I don't know what I did before cable. Well, yeah I do. I watched about 4 fewer hours of TV per week. The 10pm conference call lasted for 11 minutes - yippee for that!

Tonight is dinner and a movie and then it's all downhill to the weekend. And today I should be getting my new computer at work. Finally, the P3-450 with 128MB of screamin' fast RAM will be gone. Let's see how easy the transition is.

I'm a running fool

Born to Run (www.borntoruninc.com) was suggested as a good place to get some new running shoes. Turns out it *is* a good place. After trying on 8 pairs of shoes and having my feet and old shoes critically analyzed (including "these should have been replaced two-and-a-half years ago"), I walked out with a new pair of shoes, two new pairs of socks, and a cool new store to spend money in :)

Also picked up fliers for a couple of local 5K runs. One in Warrington Sept 25 (Run for Rett) and one in Springfield Sept 11 (Springfield 5K Run and Fun Festival). I think I can make those. Let me know if you'd like to join in with me. If you're slower than me, I'll mock you from in front and if you are faster, I'll mock the way you look from behind. Unless you happen to have a really nice ass in which case I'll follow as close as I can.

Not you, Steve.

Happy Anniversary

Finally a *happy* anniversary. Or maybe not.

Today is my 6th anniversary at my job. I truly didn't think I'd be here this long, not only when I first started, but even in February. Oh well, there's something to be said for longevity.

It was 6 years and 3 days ago that a cute brunet, a fuzzy kitty, and I showed up in Pennsylvania in a red pickup with mismatched topper. I'm glad I resisted the urge to kick the fuzzy kitty out in Indiana or I'd not even have her here with me now.

I should have brought some donuts in for my group. Or maybe I'll just get myself a donut. Mmm, donuts, my one weakness.

Time to start thinking forward to the Maine motorcycle trip. Have to decide if I'm going to change tires before the trip. Definitely an oil change. Maybe check the blinker fluid.

Why I stay out of the midwest

Mullet Hunt

It's not just the fact that they have a Mullet Hunt at the state fair, but the fact that it's news.

Sheesh

Monday - weekend update

Well, the shore weekend did not occur. We were going to leave Friday after work, but I haven't heard from Sylvia since Thursday evening. Anybody know what's going on?

Instead, I spent the weekend with lawn work, gym visits, and a Saturday night at Ludwig's Garten (http://www.phillytown.com/ludwigs.htm) in which I had three large Spaten Oktoberfests and one Dirty Ho (Hoegaarden & rasberry lambic mixed). Made some new friends (Erin, Erin, Mark and Anita) and got to visit with Vanessa again. We are setting another tentative running date - hopefully I don't get sick this time :p

Now it's Monday morning, and I'm back to work.

and it was a good weekend

Friday I finally got the VFR back after it's valve adjustment. The return had been delayed as they waited for valve cover gaskets, then, on the bill I noticed a charge and then a credit. Turns out the gaskets were ok, so they didn't replace them. Under $200 for a valve adjust? I'm glad I didn't try it, especially with the heat.

Used the trailer to get the bike there and back. Kind of a pain, but good for my independence. Sylvia was going to take me up Friday, but I decided to go earlier which was fortunate as she had a flat tire and was waiting for Audi. I cooked my last zucchini from the garden with basil and tomatoes (also from my garden). Ended up falling asleep on the couch early and waking up early Saturday morning.

Saturday morning workout was good - trying to get the abs in shape for the upcoming beach weekend. A little late to do much, but it's good in the long run, anyway. Ran a couple of errands (used bookstore) and decided it was TOO hot. Stayed inside and watched 2001: A Space Odyssey finally. It helped that I'd read the book a month or so ago. Good movie, but you need to see it a couple of times and have the background before you watch.

Saturday night I tried to find a movie date, but everyone was out. Even hit Craig's List at the last minute - got a couple of replies from guys (I need to be more specific, I guess). Luckily, Linda called and I went down to Wilmington to hang out with her and Leroy. Sunday I helped them movie furniture back into their newly painted rooms with the newly refinished floors. It looks fabulous.

Sunday, I got home, talked to both moms (that's twice that's happened now) and took yet another nap on the couch. What a habit that's becoming. Woke groggy and forced myself to the gym to get the blood flowing. Did a little hot tub soak after my workout and back home for asparagus and tofu stir fry. To bed early, up early, and here I am at work.

Now to get through another work week, including a midweek break for my first ever Phillies game Wed evening, and then off to the shore for my first ever NJ shore weekend. So many new things and it only took me 6 years in Philadelphia to start doing them :)

Strange sleep

I've gotten into this wacky sleep pattern. Wake up in the middle of the night, can't go back to sleep, try to nap after work & now I'm in a cycle.

It has made for some interesting dreams
though.

London Photos - Finally

Ok, this just got really simple. The trip report (under Photo Pages) has the same link as below.

london photos

Things are dragging on getting all the photos up, so I made a small page with some of my favorites. Screwed up the London trip report in the meantime. Crap. I hope I have a back up of it somewhere. If anyone cached it, please e-mail me a copy. I don't think I can rewrite it.

UPDATE: I had it cached and all should be well.

Photos are here (best of London).

Catching up on the little things

An easy-going day at casa Osborne. Just noticed it's raining. So much for the VFR test ride. Yes, I finally got it back together - with a minimum of swearing and prying.

I think I'll do laundry and a little shopping today; a CD for a friend and maybe a new DVD player, running shoes. Also need to finally get rid of Becky's desk and the big-ass filing cabinet. Just little things around the house. Time to scrub the shower and put those little vinyl fish in the tub 'fore I land on my ass.

Might breakdown and finally watch 2001: A Space Odyssey, too.

*****

Update: I did splurge $60 on a new Toshiba DVD player. Not too shabby, though my standards aren't really that high. Bought some CDs, but couldn't decide which DVDs to spend money on. Would have gotten the 12-DVD LOTR box set if it had been $20 cheaper ($90 = a little too high).

Ironed a dozen shirts, stir fried some leftover broccoli and rice, watched a little TV and had a vodka tonic.

And I should start a movie review page. Saw "Must Love Dogs" Saturday night and it was very funny. Timely, too, given the theme of divorce and internet dating.

London trip page coming as soon as I can figure out why I can't ftp from home.

Yaaaawn

It's sleepy Friday morning. Stayed up late, but it was worth it as the night had good food (Bangkok Chicken, rice, curried cauliflower and carrots - homemade!) and great conversation. Now I need to get the motor running and get some work done.

High 90s and humidity is busting my first hope of camping this weekend. Oh, well, there'll be plenty more. Tonight is a movie and the rest of the weekend is pretty much open. (pretty much)

Too much of a coincidence!

I just realized, Jennifer Aniston and I are both available again after a long time. I see it as a sign from the gods.

still some days

The past couple of days I've been missing Becky. We had so much together and I not only miss what we had, but what we could have had in the future. I want to talk to her, but I know it would just make me feel worse.

Some days are just like that.

disaPOINTed!

I was going to get a group together to do the 5k Classic part of the Philadelphia Distance Run this year (http://www.philadistancerun.org). Just saw that there is no 5k offered this year. And, no Steve, I'm not doing the 1/2 marathon, but I'll cheer you on if you want to come out for it.

And now I'm searching for other 5k runs to plan for. Did a Google search on "running events" to find a site that shows, well, running events. First one that pops up is "Calendar of Nude Running Events." Welllll, I guess I don't need to worry about getting a new pair of shorts. Who's in?

http://www.runnersweb.com is the real site I was looking for. Who's in for a clothed running event? Also www.runnersworld.com is a good search site.

On a recommendation from my friend, Molly, I rented and watched "Go" last night (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139239/). It was pretty good, made me want to crash a Las Vegas wedding (see the movie and you'll understand). A little depressing maybe, but there was a little thread of hope running through the whole thing. And some drugs, nudity, and violence. Yippee! Now I just need a good evening where I'm wide awake to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey. And someone special to watch it with. (Yeah, Lily's special, but she doesn't like scifi.)
