A little Joy in my Life

Something new came into my life 2 days ago and I've been happy ever since.

I went to npr.org and downloaded podcasts. Oh, what a nice reminder of home (i.e., SE PA) to hear Car Talk, Fresh Air and Talk of the Nation. I listen on my mobile phone or working at my desk at home. I get to hear high-level English and stay up on events in the US (e.g., presidential election).

Today is the Lantern Festival in China. Tons of fireworks and some traditional food, sticky rice ball soup, I think. Instead of that, GP cooked some delicious pork and radish soup, mmmm! She cooks it for a couple of hours and it is wonderful every time. BTW, "radish" means the big, mostly flavor-less one (daikan?) you can sometimes find back home.

its really the little things, isn't it? I've been listening to podcasts of a radio show I grew up listening to in DC. Its a little jarring hearing it in Seattle, I couldn't imagine hearing NPR in China (though I think you need it - Warren Olney will definitely get your weird Singlish back in check)

I want a cute woman to cook tasty soup for me. Are there any other single women there in China?

Hey Matt,
If you have iTunes on your computer there, you can set it to automatically download podcasts of your favorite program. That way you can have them download overnight, since those download speeds in China are incredibly slow. I had a number of podcasts download overnight while I was over there.

BTW: Try the podcast of "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me". That is always good for a laugh.

Finally: Many thanks again to you and GP for being my tour guide.

oooh, you'd be sooo proud of me (how's that for overuasage of vowels?) I went out for sushi last night with my friend, Denise and I had EEL! Go me :) It was tempura fried though, so not too eel tasting. Not that I really know what eel tastes like anyway. Also had rainbow sushi with yellow tail, tuna and salmon (I think) It was good, but I prefer they hide the raw stuff inside the roll
